Overview
German beer has a soft spot in my heart, especially HB. I was born on a Canadian Air Force base in Germany and it was closely associated with HB and we always had a lot of souvenirs with the logo on it everywhere. The first beer stein in my collection, in fact, was a thimble-sized HB collectible that I did get a sip or two of beer out of growing up. I’ve also spent a few nights in Munich as a young traveller enjoying one or two tasty pints with some schnitzel or pork hock. So with that in mind, expect lenient marking here for nostalgia.
Appearance
Crisp pale gold in the glass, with average head and only a few bubbles rising throughout. It’s a fairly typical looking lager.
Aroma
Predominantly yeast and the faintest wisp of honey, it’s very bready on the nose in a fairly compelling way.
Taste
Initial taste is malt and citrus, giving way to floral hops with faint apple and grass notes. Very pleasant and nostalgic.
Mouthfeel
Mild, crisp and clean; very refreshing and pleasant with a nice amount of carbonation.
Overall
As expected: a familiar and excellent beer filled with memories. Highly recommended.
